Climbing Areas in Turkey Part 1: Antalya

1. Antalya

To reach to Antalya from Istanbul or other big cities there are several ways:

You can find plane at low-cost companies such as Pegasus, Onur Air, Anadolu Jet, Sky Airlines, Atlas Jet.
Or Coaches from almost every city, most common coach companies are: Pamukkale, Metro, Güney Akdeniz, Nilüfer

1.1. Geyikbayiri, Antalya

This is the best known and largest climbing area in Turkey, There are over 400 routes of all difficulties.

Transportation: (Update: 12.11.2011) There two ways to go to akdamlar village. First one, from Terminal (Coach Station) you can use 521 Terminal-Çakırlar-Akdamlar (Geyikbayiri- Caglarca 3 times a day at 07.00,13.00,18.00 These busses also go to Geyikbayiri Village)

Seccond option is going to Gursu stop, you can go there from almost everywhere in the city, and than use "Minibus  501" to go Akdamlar village.

After that you have to continue to Geyiklbayiri village way, according to season you can find minibuses or hitchhike. Before Geyikbayiri village you will see the main sector "Mağara" the Cave at the right. For detailed information you can get climbing guide or visit camping area's websites.

Accomodation: There are places that they have pensions and bungalows for accomodation in Geyikbayiri. You can also pitch a tent on the camping grounds of each places.*

1.2. Olympos, Antalya
Olympos is one of the most important historical cities of Lycia. But recently people comes here for nature, sea and beach. And thanks to this, there are a lot of campings, bungalows in this area and you can find a lot of activities during your rest day.

 Transportation: Busses leave for Finike-Kumluca from Antalya bus station every half an hour. After 75 kilometer bus ride -aproximately an hour- get out of the bus at the Olympos turn. From the turn, you can make the 10 km's to Olympos by a minibus or by hitchhiking.

If you have a car, follow the Kemer signs from Antalya to the west. After you pass the Akyarlar an Çam Dağı passes, you reach Kemer. Continue west and pass Çamyuva and Tekirova, Turn left on the Olympos Çavuşköy sign and reach Olympos always following left. Distance between Antalya and Olympos is 85 kms.*

 Accomodation: There are lots of campings here, you can rent tree houses, bungalows or find areas for your tents.

If you google "Olympos Tree House" you can find lots of places to stay.


Best Season: Mid-september untill June.
